A Phillip Island café that has been doing the same thing well for a long time.

An island ritual

Penny Lane is the kind of place that becomes part of the trip. Tucked down a short alley off Thompson Avenue in Cowes, the courtyard opens into a comfortable space with timber tables, a working coffee bar, and staff who seem genuinely pleased to see you.

It started as an all-day breakfast and lunch spot and has stayed true to that. Generous portions, strong coffee, a menu that covers the ground between a fast bite and a slower sit-down. The proximity to the esplanade and the jetty has made it a natural stop for visitors and a steady home for locals.

Guests come back every summer. Some bring the kids. Some bring the dog. Most order the smashed avo or the big breakfast and tell their friends to come.
